Those who prefer to explore the ocean while dry should check out boats equipped with a glass bottom to obtain an insight into the amazing world underwater. Through the embedded glass bottom of the boat, you can observe what is happening in the water below your feet. An experienced captain will guide and control the glass boat since they are familiar with the area and know where you can find interesting marine life. The duration of the glass bottom boat excursion with snorkeling from Diani Beach is about 3 hours during which you can explore the magical underworld from the comfort of the glass bottom boat. Pick-up times from your hotel depend on the tide whether it is high or low tide. The glass boat tours are mostly done during low tides to be able to explore the sandbank (the sandbank is popularly known as Robinson Island) which pops up during low tides. Snorkeling can be done for swimmers but if you choose to stay on the boat or laze on the sand bank this is also perfectly fine.

Shimba Hills is a small game reserve 47km from Diani Beach, it is about 1 hours’ drive from most of the beach resorts. It is famous for the Sable Antelope found only in this park. Shimba hills is a rainforest with spectacular view, but there are no cats (lions, cheetahs) in this game reserve. Other animals that can be found in the park are giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, antelopes, monkeys and baboons. It is important to note that the Shimba safari is normally a relaxing trip and not a place for a person looking for a proper safari with lots of animals. The nature of the game reserve is rain forest and hence it can get difficult to spot animals. Pick up from your hotel at around 07.00hrs from your beach resort/hotel and drive to Shimba park entrance, once inside the park game viewing drives begin until around 08.00am, followed by a walk to Sheldrick Falls. This is about 2 hrs walk to and from the falls, comfortable walking shoes and clothing required. The walk back is usually up hill. After the walk lunch will be served at the lodge then drive back down to the lodge for lunch. After lunch and relaxing at the lodge, you can go into the park for more game drives or drive back to Diani beach. Drop off at hotel at around 16:00hrs. Shimba lodge has a waterhole and elephants can be seen from time to time, taking their baths. A resident Fish eagle can also be spotted.
