Established by the Wildlife Protection Society in 1981, the Turtle Hatchery is the prime location for turtle nesting. The newborn turtle hatchlings are kept in huge tanks where they are fed and taken care of. When the turtles are 2-4 days old, they are taken to the sea and released during the darkness when it is safe. At the Turtle Hatchery, there are up to five endangered species of baby turtles where visitors are also allowed to hold them in their palms. The people in charge of the hatchery also provide visitors with information about the different species of turtles.

Counted amongst the biggest parks in the city, Viharamahadevi Park, formally known as Victoria Park, was built by some well-known British architects. Pre-independence, the park hosted the British Army during the World War 2, Australian Army of the 17th Brigade and even hosted many cricket matches. The park welcomes visitors with a huge Buddha statue. Inside the park, there are water fountains, a small zoo and a play area for children. On the Eastern side of the museum, there's a small aquarium that has a decent collection of rare local fish.
